Volunteers

Volunteer positions may be part-time or full-time and are needed year round. Schedules are rotating and will include days and weekends.

 

Volunteer Orientation runs from September through April.  You must commit to 3 Saturdays during the orientation period. If you have other commitments during this time (i.e. school, work etc.), let us know in advance and we will try to schedule accordingly.

Volunteering at Saunders Country will provide a fun and rewarding opportunity to learn about animals and to be part of a team environment. Volunteers will be involved in most aspects of animal care including, but not limited to:
 

  • Cleaning and maintaining enclosures for a wide variety of species

  • Care and enrichment of various species

  • Grounds keeping within the various enclosures

  • Preparing the food and diets for various species

  • Learning how to work safely around and with minimal stress to the animals

  • Safe handling and restraint of various species

  • Socialization of various species

  • Providing nutrition/bottles to infant species on a rigid schedule

 

In order to apply you must be:

  • Committed to caring about the animals and the people who come to see them.

  • Minimum age of 12 years

  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic with a genuine interest in working with all species of animals.

  • Mature, reliable and punctual.

  • A sincere interest to learn

  • Very observant and detail oriented.

  • Ability to handle the emotional impact of death and euthanasia.

  • Physically strong and healthy.

  • Possess a sense of humor as some days we really need it.

  • Possess a valid or willing to obtain a CPIC (Police Check)

  • Rabies and tetanus vaccines are recommended.
